Self-Injury Support Group

Beyond Bandages

Beyond Bandages is a self-injury support group that began on Friday, November 4, 2005 as "Breaking the Silence of Self-Injury" and has continued as "Beyond Bandages" on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Thursday nights through January  2019.

As of February 2019, Beyond Bandages will switch to the 1st & 3rd Thursday nights of every month at 7:00pm.

Beyond Bandages is a support group for adult men and women who cause self-inflicted pain and/or injuries to themselves (as a form of coping), who are seeking support or have overcome and looking for support, in a group environment. *the support group meetings are closed, only open to those that currently harm, in process of overcoming, or have overcome and looking for support. If you bring a guest, friend or family member, they are welcome to stay in our cafe for the duration of the meeting.

Support & Understanding

The 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month is our support group meeting where each person in attendance takes part in the discussion. And, at times there is even homework. Come out to be part of a supportive group where you can discuss the real struggles of overcoming self-inflicted violence.  Regardless of where you are in your road to recovery, we are here to listen and support.

  • Each meeting has a specific topic and takes place in a relaxed environment.
  • Doors open at 6:30pm and meeting begins at 7:00pm.
  • We are at 21 Pine Street, on the first floor, down the hallway, in suite 116.

Beyond Bandages--Changes 2019

Kicking off in January of 2019, Beyond Bandages will implement some changes and include a few modifications so that we can continue aiming for a healthy 'road to recovery'.

  • Beyond Bandages will go from 3 meetings a month to 2 meetings a month  which will allow us to keep other Thursday nights open for off-site meetings.
  • Going forward, we will have our support group meeting on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of every month. We will provide handouts and there will be homework at least once a month.
  • Each meeting will have a rotating co-leader (from our crew) that will come up with the topic and guide the discussion.

  • Online Support: We have created a safe and secure online self-injury support forum  where every member will register and have their own user name and password to get onto the support group forum.
  • The online support group is available at

  • Workshops, Seminars, and Speaking Engagements: Beyond Bandages (dedicated/active members) will be involved in these and will take place at high schools, hospitals, and conferences when needed as well as when we are invited.
  • All offsite speaking engagements or meetings will be scheduled on the 2nd & 5th Thursdays of every month and/or on the 2nd Friday of every month.

Parent/Guardian Self-injury Awareness

  • On the 4th Friday of every month, we will provide a self-injury awareness workshop for parents of those that self-injure.
  • The workshop will consist of a  slideshow presentation followed by a question and answer session.
  • After the session there will be a time to share about the struggles/challenges each parent may be facing with their son or daughter.
  • Light refreshments are served.

Self-Injury Talk Show

  • We had a self-injury radio show, 'Show Your Scars' from 2014 to 2017 and we believe it is time to go in the direction of an in-person talk show.
  • Starting in January we will be having our crew involved in the discussions and the show will be recorded live at Launching Point.
  • We will post at least 2 shows a month to our YouTube channel.

Some Changes & Additions Coming to Launching Point:

  • Our desire is to reach out to the community, and that will take us away from our location as well as making more things open to everyone at our cafe.
  • Launching Point will continue going to festivals bringing awareness of self-inflicted violence and talking with people about how to overcome. Note: Only active/dedicated members of Beyond Bandages will be involved as they have been over the years.

  • Launching Point opened a store at our location in November 2018 and will have dedicated/active members operate our store; volunteering their time on select days/nights.

  • Launching Point will continue our focus of bringing hope, awareness, and inspiration via the messages on our products. We will begin to bring select products to speaking engagements.

  • Launching Point will be mailing self-injury awareness packets to schools and hospitals so they know what we offer.

  • Our Friday Cafe has been changed to "Community Cafe” with hours of 6:00pm to 11:00pm for anyone looking to hangout, have a “getaway place” or listen to music in a safe environment. This is a “come and go” Cafe for anyone to come out, with opening and closing hours, so anyone can come and go in those hours of operation.

  • All meetings, seminars, events, activities, and festivals will be indicated on our calendar and app.
