Beyond Bandages Meeting Goals & Description...
SUPPORT GROUP DESCRIPTION: Beyond Bandages (formerly BSSI: Breaking the Silence of Self-Injury) is a self-injury support group that takes place at Launching Point where you can safely discuss your struggles with any self-injurious behavior. Throughout group discussions, Beyond Bandages will provide support as well as learning to overcome every aspect of self-injury. The long-term goal is to end the cycle of self-injury and hope that every person will learn to cope positively rather than act out immediately.
CLOSED MEETINGS: Beyond Bandages is a closed meeting group, which means due to the nature of the topic, all meetings are only open to those who self-injure. No parents, spouses, friends, children, counselors, therapists, etc.
This group is for A PERSON WHO: Struggles with any form of self-inflicted violence and/or causes self-inflicted pain or injuries as a way of coping who desires to stop

COST: None, anything needed for the support group meeting is provided. If there is ever a cost for an activity or event, members would be given advanced notice so they can plan accordingly. There are donation jars on our wall that show our expense for anyone that wants to donate to a specific area.
WHAT IT IS: A support group and discussion session for those struggling with self-injury and those looking to overcome. There are topics at each group: open discussions, music interpretation, and even times where each member of the group writes a topic and we select that from the bucket and go around the room to discuss.
WHAT IT IS NOT: This is not a counseling session nor is it therapy. This is not the place to come and unload all of your issues; however it is the place to share your struggles with self-injury. There is structure (and a theme or topic) at every meeting and the support group is a good supplement, but not a replacement for therapy.
GUEST SPEAKER: From time to time a guest may be invited to share how he/she has overcome their struggles with self-injury and how they maintain there freedom from a self-injurious lifestyle. This is a 30-minute segment, with the guest speaking for 10-15 minutes and 15 minutes for any questions members may have. Advance notice will be provided to group members when a guest is scheduled.
BEYOND BANDAGES IS NOT FOR LOVED ONES:
- Beyond Bandages is a closed meeting group, which means due to the nature of the topic, all meetings are only open to those who self-injure.
- If you have a spouse, parent or friend who is interested in finding out more about self-injury, we do offer "Friends & Family" which is a support group for loved ones of a person who self-injures.
